A homage to the fighter aircraft that helped win the Battle of Britain, intertwining the story of the author’s creation of a replica Spitfire with that of the history of the aeroplane itself.

How to Build a Spitfire juxtaposes the ups and down of David Price’s ambitious project to recreate an icon of British aviation with a vividly informative narrative of the Spitfire’s origins, design and production.

From the first flight of R. J. Mitchell’s prototype K5054 in 1936, through the developments to the craft during the Second World War, David Price traces the evolution of an aircraft — one that remains an enduring symbol of British engineering genius and national resilience.

About David:
David Price's early interest in aviation was inspired by days exploring deserted RAF airfields in his native Cumbria. He has written for many newspapers and magazines on military aviation and is the author of The Crew, the story of an Avro Lancaster crew during the Second World War, and Mosquito Men: The Elite Pathfinders of 627 Squadron
